Welcome to the Website of

Laboratory of Applied Electrochemistry (Ap.E)

Ap.E is a Research laboratory of the Dipartimento di Chimica of the Università degli Studi di Milano. Ap.E has an intense research activity in the industrial applications of electrochemical science and technology, and in particular in the field of energy conversion and environmental protection and remediation.

Ap.E is a Research Unit of Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per la Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali (INSTM).

Our expertise covers the fields of:

The Laboratory develops ad hoc procedures for the evaluation of:

Performances of electrolyzers and (photo)electrochemical generators (e.g. accelerated life-tests)
Electric resistivity and gas-permeability of gas-diffusion-layers and gas-diffusion-electrodes
Transport properties of polymeric electrolytes
Performances of electrocatalytic materials for the oxidation/ reduction of gaseous substances

In addition, the Laboratory has specific interest and expertise in environmental impact analysis of substances/materials and processes. In view of internationally accepted environmental rules and regulations aiming at the sound comparability of environmental declarations, the Laboratory is active in studying procedures of Life Cycle Assessments, including comparative analyses for ecodesign evaluations. LCA studies are comprehensive of the criteria for allocation, normalization, weighting and data uncertainty evaluations. In addition, the Laboratory can develop Products Category Rules as well as set-up Environmental Product Declarations.
